A typical row home in Washington DC, this non-conforming house became structurally unsound due to a weak foundation and termite damage. Working with the existing structure, R. Michael Cross Design Group integrated an additional volume that better fit the client’s needs as well as complimented the contemporary style of the surrounding buildings. The design concept resulted in grander interior views of the home’s rear garden as well as reinforced support to the upper floors to withhold the owner’s impressive vinyl collection. Bringing it all together is an alternating tread stair, which integrated the shelving for the remarkable vinyl records.
